Fat Tuesday (aka Shrove Tuesday) found the Residents, staff and volunteers in full party mode for the Mardi Gras Carnival. Everyone enjoyed the sights, sounds, activities and smells of a real Mardi Gras…so much so you might have thought you were on Bourbon Street!
Everyone savored the freshly made beignets and cafe au lait … the smells alone made one hungry. This was followed by our good friends, the Oblate Sisters of Providence and New Orleans natives, who told us a little about the traditions of Mardi Gras and led us all in the traditional “Second Line,” a Mardi Gras dance, complete with umbrellas. As they led the dance, several Residents and staff joined in or took a chance at several carnival games including the doubloon toss.
