The feast of St. Joseph is a greatly celebrated day in the Homes of the Little Sisters of the Poor. St. Joseph is the Patron Saint of the Little Sisters of the Poor. Our foundress, St. Jeanne Jugan, turned to St. Joseph to obtain all she needed to care for the elderly poor. Bishop Mark E. Brennan presided at a special Mass on Monday, March 19 along with many priest friends.
After Mass, the priests, and members of the St. Martin’s Home Board and volunteers served our Residents their festive luncheon meal. Those who served came for the same reason that Pope Francis felt summoned – to be of service and bring joy to the elderly poor through their generous gift of self! Our new Main Street was a beautiful setting for the meal and this special celebration!
On March 28 our Residents had the privilege of meeting with Mrs. Yumi Hogan, First Lady of the State of Maryland and wife of Governor Larry Hogan. Mrs. Hogan is a long-time friend of St. Martin’s Home! Sister Marie Pauline welcomed her in Korean, one of our Residents read a poem written especially for the occasion, and our postulants shared their talent by singing the state song of Maryland. Everyone was touched by the visit of Mrs. Hogan to our Home and we assured her of our prayers for the Governor and for herself as they serve the people of Maryland.
