Many Residents at St. Martin’s Home spend Friday afternoons making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the homeless in the Baltimore area.
Permanent Deacon-candidate Steven Sarnecki asked if our Residents would consider “mass producing” pbj sandwiches as a Friday afternoon activity. The sandwiches are taken to a homeless shelter and distributed to those in need. What began as a “one-time” activity has turned into a weekly event.
The Residents enjoy the production line – some specializing in peanut butter, others in jelly, others in putting the sandwiches together! They all agree their favorite part is an opportunity to help those in need!
The “secret” recipe for pbj sandwiches used by our Residents:
- Collect ingredients.
- Spread peanut butter evenly onto one slice of bread using a knife.
- Spread jelly or jam evenly onto the other slice of bread.
- Press the two slices of bread together.
- Cut the sandwich.
- Enjoy knowing your easy and yummy looking sandwiches are on their way to feeding the homeless!
