Resident Marie Cusick had a pleasant, unexpected surprise the week before her 100th birthday. Knowing that Marie is probably the Baltimore Ravens’ Number 1 fan, Sister Lourdes Marie contacted the Ravens management team and they graciously arranged for Marie to attend a Ravens football practice at Under Armour Performance Center.
On Friday, September 20, a beautiful, sunny day, Marie dressed from head to toe in purple in preparation for the practice. The Ravens team had sent Marie a cap, jersey and purple purse to carry. In addition, Marie’s fingernails were painted her favorite color – purple. Marie was accompanied by one of her daughters, the Little Sisters, and staff members.
The group was met at the Ravens offices by Heather, who coordinated Marie’s special day. Heather presented Marie an official Ravens jersey with the number one – for being such a fan. Once on the field, Marie and the Little Sisters had the opportunity to watch an entire practice. Immediately following practice, every player and coach lined up to acknowledge Marie and the work of the Little Sisters. Quarterback Joe Flacco commented that Marie could not be 100 and asked her how old she felt … perhaps 25? Marie’s answer was, “Are you kidding?”
The Little Sisters and Marie thank the Ravens for their great kindness. Marie takes credit for the 2013 Super Bowl win and looks forward to helping them this next year! It pays to have a 100 year old Super Fan!
A Birthday to Remember!
