An afternoon tea was recently held to the delight of Residents, Little Sisters and friends. Joyce Smarr, Association Jeanne Jugan member, planned the event. Although held in the past, it had been many years since the last tea party. Joyce (along with Yoshi Beatty, AJJ member, and her friend, Lynne Killam) wanted the Residents to have the opportunity to put on their Sunday best, don lovely hats (a highlight of the party), and enjoy the elegance of afternoon tea.
Joyce, Yoshi and Lynne served their handmade tea sandwiches with cucumbers, scones with clotted cream, and fresh fruit. Desserts were cream filled petit fours and cupcakes. Joyce brought her beautiful china from home which she has collected for years. Many of the hand painted heirloom cups, saucers and tea pots were from Germany and England. Demitasse spoons were available for the Residents to use. Resident Patricia Bateman said she enjoyed holding the tea cups and spoons because it was reminiscent of teas she had attended in the past. She told Joyce, Yoshi, and Lynne, This is so beautiful — I hope this will be the first of many teas. You will be blessed. The days blessings were the smiles of joy on the faces of our Residents!
